Boosting an Irrigation System, Bristol   October, 2020

We were approached to specify a mains boosting set with additional spares to supply an irrigation system. Pump World’s technical team recommended the Smart-box Tank Set CAT5  as well as an insulation jacket, hose, hose accessories, and a lever ball valve.

This was a good install to a store room behind a concierge desk of a housing development. The pump was required to supply an irrigation system. We strongly advised the client to use this model as it has such a quiet motor and being so close to the main desk. The install required us to add extra power outlet (13amp spur) plus an outside socket. The water inlet was straight forward and all lagged. The waste overflow, which feeds from the back of this unit has been hidden behind shelves and into the drain. The outlet pipe had to snake up the wall and through an old thick wall to ground level to where we fitted a 1" lever tap for the irrigation system to hook up to. The client has commented that the pump can't be heard from the desk area. Overall, the service we had from Pump World was very professional and efficient. The help we received from Nigel was very beneficial, as was Francesca."

Kitchen Tap Boosting, Suffolk   July, 2020

We were approached to specify a pump to boost hot water in a bungalow.

Pump World’s technical team recommended a Supergen 15SX - a cost effective, regenerative unit with a specially designed single impeller that aids the removal of air generated in the system. Low speed (1450 rpm) induction motor and anti-vibration rubber feet reduce transmitted noise. This pump is extremely quiet running and WRAS Approved. Supplied with 1.5 m mains cable and stainless steel braided hoses.

Technically very helpful in understanding complex water flow problems. The pump was fitted this morning...impressively quiet...hot water now reaches the sink in one minute with full flow, previously it was 2 minutes 45 seconds with a slow flow! Thanks for all your help."

Domestic Property, Hampshire   May, 2020

We were approached to specify a complete system to boost cold water over 3 floors to 4 bathrooms. The water tank capacity needed to meet the demands of the full system operating for a period of 12 minutes without any recovery from the mains.

Pump World’s technical team quickly put together a combination of products that met the end user’s requirements for a quiet-running, energy efficient, high performance, and easily maintainable solution to low water pressure. This included the Smartpro 12 Plus booster pump, which can be controlled and monitored with your smartphone, two modular break tanks with insulation jackets, and a water conditioner to treat hard water coming in from the mains – all supplied via the end user’s local merchant.

Nigel showed a wealth of experience and was very helpful in determining the solution for my property."

Large Renovation Project, North London   November, 2019

This large renovation project, first brought to us in 2014, required a complete system for boosting cold water over 3 floors to 6 bathrooms. Our sister company, Smart Showers, was also asked to provide a steam shower system for the master bathroom for which a Charade 800 wetroom head was provided.

With large scale shower heads as well as standard water outlets to pressurise, the Pump World team specified and supplied a Smartpro Twin Pump Set, 6.0 Bar Hot Water Cylinder, Two Piece Break Tank with Raised Ball Valve Chamber and Water Treatment solutions. The pump set was also commissioned on site to ensure a reliable, quality installation within the manufacturer's warranty.

For a true drench shower, look no further than the Italian made Charade. 80cm of edge to edge nozzles, in a slim-line design for smart water distribution without compromising on performance."

10 Things You Should Know About Shower Pumps   January, 2020

Choosing the right shower pump can be daunting, especially with such a wide range of options available from twin to single, positive to universal, 1.5 bar to 3.0 bar. So, to make things a bit easier, we have collated a list of 10 things you should know about shower pumps:

  • As a general rule, if the cold water tank is above the outlet point and there is a flow of at least 0.5 litres per minute from the outlet, a positive head shower pump is required.
  • If the cold water tank is below the outlet point, or there is little or no flow, a universal head shower pump is required.
  • Fitting a shower pump at the base of, or below, the hot water cylinder is the best option for your installation. (However, if you have to install a shower pump in the loft, please call our technical team for advice on the best product and method - 01793 820142).
  • A shower pump with a regenerative impeller is specially designed to aid removal of air generated in the system.
  • Pumps with regenerative impellers also offer slightly lower flow rates compared to centrifugal pumps, and are ideal to use when pipework is complicated by many bends and elbows.
  • Pumps with centrifugal impellers are highly efficient but less tolerant to air generated in the system.
  • Centrifugal impeller pumps offer higher flow rates than regenerative pumps, and are best to use when the pump is situated well below (<2m) the height of the cold water storage tank, and when pipework and bends can be kept to a minimum.
  • Brass-bodied shower pumps with brass impellers, rubber feet, and regenerative design are among the quietest type of shower pump on the market.
  • Air can build up in a shower pump installation over time and when not used regularly. It can cause a variety of issues including excessive noise, temperature fluctuation etc but a simple air test can clear out your installation and solve the issue. Click here to find out how to complete an air test
  • When choosing the bar rating of your shower pump, bear in mind that some modern showers and taps do not work below a certain pressure. If you aren't sure, contact our technical team on 01793 820142.

Follow our Shower Pump Q & A Guide for more information on shower pumps. If you would like technical assistance, please call 01793 820142.
