Making the right shower pump choice can be daunting, especially with the vast array of products on offer. Below is a simple Q&A to help you make an informed choice.

positive or universal?

Deciding the type of shower pump needed in an installation is determined by the position of the cold water tank in relation to the outlet point. As a general rule, if the cold water tank is above the outlet point and there is a flow of at least 0.5 lpm from the outlet, a positive head shower pump is required. If the cold water tank is below or there is little or no flow, a universal head shower pump is required.

centrifugal or regenerative?

There are two types of impellers to help deal with different installation situations. One is centrifugal; the other is regenerative.

Centrifugal impellers are highly efficient but less tolerant to air generated in the system. They offer higher flow rates compared to regenerative pumps, and are ideal to use when the pump is situated well below (>2m) the height of the cold storage tank and when pipework and bends can be kept to a minimum.

A shower pump should be sited as close to the hot water cylinder as possible. However, if the shower pump is fitted in the loft or above the hot water cylinder (minimum static head required), regenerative pumps are a better choice as they tend to be less affected by the air that can accumulate in the system. Regenerative impellers are specially designed to aid removal of air generated in the system. They offer slightly lower flow rates compared to centrifugal pumps, and are ideal to use when pipework is complicated by many bends and elbows.

Our Supergen shower pumps have regenerative or centrifugal impellers, browse the range below.

plastic construction?

The plastic bodied Supergen pumps offer a cost-effective solution for boosting. The Supergen 58TX and Supergen 15SX are manufactured in the UK, and fitted with low speed motors that reduce noise, not performance.

Rigid Arm Float

Fixed Arm Float Switch

• Protects the Pump from Low Level Water
• Optional Control Box with Relay
• Polypropylene Construction

Models

From£91.20 exc. VAT

Description

Rigid Arm Float Switch : low level water protection.

Application : Protects the pump from low level water.

These horizontal float switches consist of a reed switch and a pivoted actuator magnet and can be used for N/O or N/C operation. The switch action can be reversed by mounting the float switch with the float able to move upwards away from the body instead of downwards.

The unit offers a reliable solution for basic fluid regulation, preventing overfilling, dry runs or loss of liquid. It's mounted internally through a port in the side of your container, which makes it ideal for applications where there's no top or bottom access to the tank.

• Suitable for use in both NO (normally open) and NC (normally closed) positions
• Silicone gasket for thermal stability and corrosion resistance in demanding applications
• Wide operating temperature range of -20°C to +100°C for use in harsh industrial settings

This switch is straightforward to install. Fit the gasket onto the float switch thread, then feed the connecting lead and the threaded portion of the float switch through the hole in the container from the inside. Feed the fixing nut over the connecting lead and tighten the nut until secure. Must close level is 8mm, must open level is 20mm (SG=1).

Option to include a control box and plug - N2052KIT - which provides terminal connections for outside control ie alarm or solenoid.

brass construction?

The brass bodied Supergen range is uniquely machined with premium quality brass to allow a smooth water flow around the impeller, reducing vibration and the associated noise level to a minimum. Products that are mass produced or value engineered typically have stamped brass which is thinner and lower quality, but the Supergen range is cast brass which is much thicker, heavier and means a longer running life and lower noise level. They can also handle hotter water, deal with air more effectively and are not demanding in terms of flow rate.
